The Department of Justice ("Department") has issued its final rule revising the regulation implementing title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) to establish specific requirements, including the adoption of specific technical standards, for making accessible the services, programs, and activities offered by State and local government entities to the public through the web and mobile applications (“apps”). This rule will be effective on June 24, 2024. To access this final rule in the Federal Register, please visit:

The rule clarifies how State and local governments can meet their existing ADA obligations as many of their activities move to the digital space. This rule will ensure that people with disabilities can better access important programs and activities like health care, transportation information, and education, through web content and mobile apps.

A press release on this rule has also been issued.
